About us
A fish and chip shop has been operating from 17 Shooters Hill since 1939 when Henry Matthews turned his fishmongers into a fish and chip shop. Tom Godfrey took over the shop in 1966, he must have at least one good night that year! In 1972, John and Val Brickwood took the shop over, changing its name to Corries Cabin, after John’s father. At some point between 1939 and 1972, the shop on the side became ‘Cabin Café’ and now forms our restaurant premises.
We, Richard and Leah, bought the shop from the Brickwoods in 2003 and moved in with our then baby daughter, living in the flat upstairs and joining a very busy Cowes business community. We inherited a great team, and have had two now retired employees serve more than 30 years each in the business under the Brickwoods then us.
Derrel Mooney joined us in 2006, with decades of experience in fish and chips in London.
